CS Skin Showcase: M4A1-S | Party Animal

BUFFAssistant

When CS players hear Party Animal, what is the first thing that comes to mind? If they once followed esports closely, could their first thought be 尼公子?

the Bosnian duo

After the blow of defeat on the competitive stage, 尼公子 briefly became a little Party Animal. Now, many years have passed since NiKo earned the title “Party Animal,” yet NiKo is still active at the top level of competition and remains one of the most popular pro players.

And today, the item we're appreciating isn't 尼公子, but the game's new collectible—the M4A1 Party Animal.

This skin is the standout top-tier finish from The Harlequin Collection. The collection itself is vivid and highly varied, and this skin is arguably the most diverse in appearance across the two new collections.

Party Animal, originally named “Party Animal” (literally “party animal”; the game Party Animals is also called Party Animals), is localized as Party Animal in the Chinese client. This skin has an overall purple color scheme and a highly variable style: different templates can display different colors, including purple, yellow, and blue, as well as different patterns.

So, what patterns are there? By unpacking the files, we extracted the templates used for this skin. They are highly complex: one massive 3×3 seamless texture. Before being imported into the game, the panel artwork was extremely saturated and genuinely harsh on the eyes. To make it easier to view and spare everyone’s eyesight, we expanded it, added dashed lines, and lowered the saturation, resulting in the following texture:

As you can see, this texture features a range of finishes resembling cells, clownfish patterns, leopard spots, tiger stripes, and snakeskin, among others. This skin uses a Hydrographic-style finish, essentially transferring these patterns onto the weapon model. What makes it more distinctive is that it comes close to achieving “full coverage.” The changing finish on the rifle’s purple sections is obvious at a glance, while the grip and the area where the stock connects use a lower-saturation blue finish. It is less noticeable, but it still shifts with the template. The image below illustrates how the skin works: the finish on the weapon can be matched to its corresponding areas on the template image.

Because the template artwork comes in such a rich variety of forms, this skin changes dramatically across templates—different seeds can look like “two entirely different skins.” As shown below, the first has leopard spots on the suppressor, a tiger-stripe body, and a cellular magazine; the second is a “hodgepodge template” with almost every kind of pattern mixed in; while the third is mainly covered in snakeskin patterning...

The barrel, handguard, grip, and stock junctions featurea shifting purple-to-blue gradient, which also changes with the Pattern Template.

This skin uses a “Hydrographic” style finish, with a Float cap of 0~0. 6. It has a wide range of template variation, and its Float presentation is dramatic, making it very “float-sensitive. But not every Hydrographic-style skin is float-sensitive. For example, the common Laminate series also uses a Hydrographic-style finish, yet it is very resistant to wear; camouflage finishes such as Boreal Forest, DDPAT pixel camo, and Bright Water are more middle-of-the-road. This skin corresponds to another Covert skin released alongside it, the The End AWP. Even when The End reaches a Float of 1, its pattern texture is still clearly recognizable:

And if the Party Animal pattern ever reached a Float of 1, it would look almost like the default weapon finish. But there’s no need to worry: its Float is capped at 0.6, so a Float-1 Party Animal will never appear in the game. The visual change across Float levels is very obvious, which also jokingly hints at the odds of a certain Party Animal getting a Major trophy... Still, no need to worry—he does have a few formidable runners-up.

It’s worn down enough that it’s practically ready for retirement, but I still hope it can get a NiKo 5x Major Champion sticker craft before it retires.
