CS stickers Meme Encyclopedia: This is fine

BUFFAssistant

Quite a few CS stickers hide story references and little Easter eggs. For example, some stickers in the game show a character sitting in the middle of the flames, calmly saying: “This is fine.”

‌

These stickers are inspired by an internet meme that comes from a strip in cartoonist K.C. Green's webcomic Gunshow.

the comic Gunshow

And “This is fine” is part of Page #648 of the comic Gunshow. (The strongly disturbing imagery has been censored, so you can view it without worry.)

The comic shows a little dog sitting in a room that’s on fire, eyes glazed over and deadpan, calmly saying “This is fine.” The sharp contrast in the scene is usually used to express helplessness and resilience in the face of trouble or danger, or to mock people who are indifferent or unmoved by obvious problems. People also use the meme to poke fun at things or to sum up their own mood. There’s also an animated version, with translation added and the horror imagery covered up, so you can watch it without worry:

In CS, the character on these stickers sits in the middle of the flames, surrounded by fire from teammates or enemies, with nowhere left to retreat and no choice but to face being swallowed by the fire. It is used as a deadpan way to express the helplessness of a match.

The fire at my teammate’s feet? Yep, that was me.

This meme also shows up a lot in fire-themed scenes. For example, in Hearthstone, the Saviors of Uldum card text for Plague of Flames includes “This is fine”:

and the Genshin Impact Pyro Regisvine achievement This is fine. (How to unlock the achievement: defeat the Pyro Regisvine together with other players)

Outside the game, there are also all kinds of fan-made spins on this meme:

This includes meme references in CS—CT, T, hostages, chickens, and more. There are even sticker designs in the Steam Workshop based on all kinds of elements and Agents:

By now, this meme has spread across social media, reaction images, sarcastic commentary, and plenty of other contexts. It has become a kind of cultural shorthand: a way for people to look at challenges and setbacks with a lighter attitude, and to signal a calm acceptance of things going badly. Thanks to its mix of humor and irony, it has been widely shared and used across the internet. It has become a way for people to face life’s messier moments with a relaxed, almost optimistic mindset.
