n1ssim: try is an insane AWPer; our goal is to be world No. 1
In the FISSURE Playground S3 group stage, Legacy took down magic, Alliance, and FURIA to finish top of Group B and advance directly to the semi-finals. In the Brazilian derby in particular, they beat FURIA 2-0, continuing their strong recent form against their domestic rivals.
After the match, n1ssim spoke to HLTV about the team's current form, the changes brought by new AWPer try, and his experience of choosing to move to the bench midway through the season before returning to the lineup. In his view, Legacy's goal has never been just to become Brazil's best: "I just want to be No. 1 in the world."
Q: Congratulations on beating FURIA to reach the semifinals. How satisfied are you with the team's performance at this event so far?
n1ssim: I think we played really well at this event. It was probably more of a tier-two or tier-three tournament, but I still think we put in a really strong performance.
Q: This is your second time beating FURIA this year. Is there anything special about playing against them for you?
n1ssim: Not for me personally. But I do think that when the two best teams in Brazil face each other, the Brazilian community definitely adds some extra spice to the match. For me, though, it was just a normal game — I just wanted to beat them.
Q: Do you see becoming the best team in Brazil as one of your goals?
n1ssim: Not really. I mean, I want us to become the best team in the world.
I don't care about being No. 1 in the Americas or No. 1 in Brazil, I just want to be No. 1 in the world.
Q: try has been playing with you for a few months now. What do you think he has brought to the team?
n1ssim: I think try is an insanely good AWPer. He also has a great understanding of the game, and his mid-round calling is really strong as well.
So I think he's given us really solid support in the AWPer role.
Q: In the middle of the season, you moved to the bench and then later returned to the team. Can you talk about what happened at the time?
n1ssim: Yes. In the middle of this year, it was actually my own decision to move to the bench, because at the time I expected the team to make some roster changes, but those changes never happened in the end.
After that, I was also hoping to get offers from some other teams. I did receive a few, but none of them were particularly appealing.
Later, Legacy's CEO asked me if I wanted to come back. At the time I was at home and didn't really have anything to do, so I came back.
Q: Considering how competitive Legacy look right now, how satisfied are you with how things have turned out?
n1ssim: Yeah, we've definitely been playing really well lately.
I think that after coming back, I’ve had a completely different mindset about the way I play, so I’m playing much better than before now, and I’m also able to help the team more.
On top of that, try joining has helped me personally as well. So right now, we look like a very solid team.
Q: So for you personally, did stepping away for a while and then coming back also feel a bit like a fresh start?
n1ssim: Yeah, I definitely think so.
When I left and then came back to the team, I returned with a completely different mindset.
Q: You've already won two tournament titles in China, and now you're just two matches away from another championship. Do you think your "good luck in China" is still with you?
n1ssim: I think "China luck" is still there (laughs).
To be honest, I don't know why either. I have no idea if it's because of the crowd here or the hotel room. I really don't know.
But I think it really brought us something good. I guess it was just "Chinese luck."
Q: Considering you've already beaten FURIA, the highest-ranked team at this event, who do you think will be the toughest opponent to face in the final?
n1ssim: To be honest, I don't even know which teams are still left in this tournament.
After arriving in China, I basically spent the whole day sleeping because of the jet lag (laughs).
I think I saw G2 here as well. There should be FURIA, G2, Astralis... Oh, Astralis have already been eliminated? Then is G2 still in?
If that's the case, then I'd say G2 or FURIA.
