Perfect World officially announces Shanghai as host of the 2027 Major
As Counter-Strike China marks its ninth anniversary, Perfect World Esports has delivered major news for CS players around the world: Valve’s highest-tier official CS event, the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2027, will be hosted by Perfect World Esports and will return to Shanghai, China. From November to December 2027, the world’s top CS teams will once again gather on the banks of the Huangpu River to battle for CS’s highest honor.
Two years ago, the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, hosted by Perfect World Esports, became the first CS Major held in Asia. At that event, Perfect World Esports opened every match across every stage of the Major to spectators, a first in CS Major history. Fans could watch each stage of the Major in person, while the teams could feel the roar and support of the live crowd throughout the event.
At the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, Chinese fans witnessed the wunderkind’s arrival—donk’s hands-in-pockets, untouchable run to the title—and saw “Big Cousin” karrigan in tears on stage after finishing runner-up. Watching one of CS’s most prestigious events in person at a Major venue, tens of thousands of Chinese fans fulfilled a dream in Shanghai; every one of them is, or once was, a CS kid with a dream and a refusal to give up. This Major gave Chinese fans a front-row introduction to the Major stage, while also letting the world get to know China better.
Since hosting CS:GO Asia Championships 2018, Perfect World Esports has remained committed to building high-level international CS events and driving the professional development of CS in China and across Asia. It went on to stage the CAC international event series in Shanghai in 2018, 2019, 2023, 2025, and 2026, and hosted a Major for the first time in 2024. Through that run, it has built extensive experience in producing top-tier events, while Shanghai has become a signature city for major CS tournaments in China.
Over the long history of CS Majors, Cologne, Germany has hosted the Major four times, while Katowice, Poland has staged it three times. Those two cities have long since become esports holy grounds in the eyes of Western CS fans. Shanghai, China, will welcome its second Major in 2027, and the hope is that it can also rise into an esports holy ground for CS fans in the East.
The Major’s return to Shanghai, China once again would not have been possible without the strong support of government departments at every level in Shanghai, and even more so without the support of every Chinese CS player. Your cheers and your presence, time and again, have shown the world the limitless energy of CNCS.
On the 10th anniversary of Counter-Strike China in 2027, Chinese players will once again get to experience the full spectacle of a CS Major in Shanghai. With the game's brightest stars on display and elite-level aim taking center stage, the city is set to welcome another top-tier event.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to the 2027 Counter-Strike World Championship!
