Skins/items Talk: “coming off cooldown at 3 p.m. Beijing time” Becomes History, as Valve Makes a silent/unannounced change to Trade Cooldown, Setting It to 7 × 24 Hours
Recently, Steam made a major adjustment to Counter-Strike 2’s skins/items Trade Cooldown system. The days when all skins/items unlocked together at 3 p.m. Beijing time (UTC+8 15:00) are over. In their place is a more precise “7 × 24 hours” cooldown mechanism. This change will have a major impact on both CS players and skins/items traders.
1. Comparison of the Old and New Mechanisms
Old mechanism: All skins/items unlocked in one daily batch at the fixed “3 p.m. Beijing time” window.
New mechanism: The trade cooldown for each skins/items is calculated strictly as “inventory entry time + 7 × 24 hours.” It unlocks automatically at that exact time, truly making it “first bought, first unlocked.”
Using screenshots of two skins/items I recently bought on the Steam Community Market and NetEase BUFF, let’s break down the changes in the new cooldown system.
II. Steam Community Market Cooldown Mechanism Update (June 23)
The trade cooldown for skins/items bought yesterday on the Steam Community Market has been adjusted:
Steam Community Market purchase time—June 23, 15:37
This skin/item comes off cooldown at — June 30, 16:00 (7 × 24 hours)
In both cases, the items unlock “7 × 24 hours” after the purchase time. This clearly shows that the adjustment affects not only the Steam Community Market, but the entire CS/Counter-Strike 2 skins market.
At this point, purchase records on the Steam Community Market and NetEase BUFF have basically confirmed that this mechanism is gradually being rolled out in full, and it is already reshaping the trading rhythm of the Counter-Strike 2 skins/item market. What impact do you think this "silent/unannounced change" from Valve will have on skins/item trading? Share your thoughts in the comments~
