Skins/Items Talk: Does “Junk Yard” Actually Hide the Possibility of Being the Only “1.00 max-float” skins/items?
Recently, overseas CS creators Flarey and Anomaly have both posted videos digging into the “only 1.00 max-float” skins/items in CS2 — Sawed-Off | Junk Yard.So why does CS2 have a weapon skin with a “text-level” condition, where the wear rating shows the word “All”?Let’s take a look~
How is the wear rating of a regular skin determined?
Single-Precision IEEE 754 Equation
In general, a skin’s float value falls between 0 and 1, where 0 represents “Factory New” and 1 represents “Battle-Scarred.”In practice, though, because Valve uses the IEEE 754 floating-point standard, the highest value a regular skin can usually reach is 0.999999887907 (that is, 1 - 1.2e-7, the maximum representable value in 32-bit), rather than exactly 1.
The highest-float skins/items currently "on record"
So how can Junk Yard theoretically roll a 1.00 max-float?
And that is exactly why there are currently 21 recorded world No. 1 highest-float skins/items, all with a wear value of 0.99999988079071 (1 - 1.2e-7).What makes this interesting, though, is that the prerequisite for hitting that maximum float is “the skin’s wear range must be 0.00–1.00,” while the Sawed-Off | Junk Yard has a wear range of 0.40–1.00!
Sawed-Off | Junk Yard wear range
Precisely because its minimum wear is set at 0.40, has a much denser spread of discrete values available to Valve within the "0.40-1.00" range than in a standard wear range, which makes a 1.00 max-float possible!
