Sticker Meme Encyclopedia: Noble Steed
There’s a sticker like this in the 10 Year Birthday Sticker Capsule: a character riding a pigeon through the air. If you don’t know the backstory, it can look pretty random, but it’s actually a meme that came from an old bug in early CS.
Sticker | Noble Steed
In an early build of CS:GO (around nine years ago), on the map Train, there were a few pigeons at the intersection straight ahead from T Spawn. If you opened fire, they would get startled and fly away, but those pigeons had collision boxes on their heads. So if you were fast enough to jump onto their heads before your shots scared them off, you could stand on the pigeons and spiral straight into the sky. Some players used this bug to reach unconventional positions and attack from spots they were never meant to be in, which seriously broke the game’s balance. The bug was later fixed, and a warning sign reading “No bird-riding” was put up.
This warning sign is located near T Spawn. The Russian text “НА ПТИЦ НЕ НАСТУПАТЬ” roughly means “Do not step on birds.”
Some newer players might not recognize this character. He’s the old CS:GO map agent Balkan, active in cold regions, which is why he’s dressed in such heavy gear. Among the five earlier agents, he was the only one wearing a Russian ushanka.
So artist Miguli created this sticker as a tribute to veteran players who still remember that era, and to those old memories themselves.
Vast and boundless, as though riding a pigeon through the void, not knowing where it might come to rest; drifting, as though leaving the mortal world behind in solitary grace, feathering into immortality and ascending to the heavens.
