TaZ: Valve’s sudden rule change is hard to accept; BC.Game’s roster adjustment followed the VRS rules in effect at the time.

BC.Game coach Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas posted on X in response to Tuesday’s update to the Counter-Strike Major Supplemental Rulebook, saying the rule prevents teams from changing regions on the eve of the Major.

The Polish veteran admitted that the new rule was “hard to accept,” saying it had effectively ruled BC.Game out of contention for PGL Major Singapore. The team had brought in Tyson “asap” Paterson and played enough matches with him to appear in the Asia-Pacific Valve Regional Standings in the October ranking update.

“We followed the rules that were in place at the time, built an eligible roster, and then appeared in the Asia-Pacific Valve Regional Standings,” he said.

“That’s why introducing a new three-month regional restriction at this point in the Major qualification cycle, and applying it immediately to the upcoming Major, is unacceptable to me.”

“I understand the purpose behind this rule,” he continued. “What is hard to accept is the timing. Teams and players make roster decisions, sign contracts, travel around the world, and plan their competitive schedules based on the rules in place at the time.”

“Changing these rules shortly before the qualifier sets a dangerous precedent for organizations that made decisions based on the rules in place at the time.”

TaZ also stressed that while Major qualification was “one of the factors” behind bringing in asap, they would not have signed him if they did not “believe he has the level and potential to genuinely improve our team and keep it competitive.”

He further suggested that BC.Game will appeal. “We will contact Valve, respect whatever final decision is made, and focus on what we can control.”

“We still have upcoming events to play, a young roster that still needs time to gel, and the same goal we’ve had since day one: to earn our way into tier-one Counter-Strike and compete for trophies.”
